What Does That Mean?
I've always been dissatisfied with how the church as a whole has become an entity that primarily serves its membership. It's programs and services are catered to those who are "in house". Little effort, if any, is made to serve those who are not inside of its walls.
Since the onset of the pandemic, people who were in church, haven't been gathering as they used to. While some churches are trying to keep their members connected, what about the people who were never members at all? My question still remained, "How will people who don't go to church hear about Jesus?"
The answer came to me from heaven:
"GO MEET THEM WHERE THEY ARE. BE MY HANDS AND FEET IN THE EARTH."
Thus SLEM was born!
The Great Commission instructs us to GO and teach all nations, to GO into the hedges and highways and to GO into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. We will not just build a place and wait for people to come to us - we will GO! We will GO meet them where they are and declare the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
To be the hands and feet of Christ in the earth means to GO and meet the natural need of people. We will GO bearing gifts of food, clothes, vouchers, monetary aid, or whatever is needed. We aren't just preaching, we're helping!
